Gov Buni swears in new chief judge

From Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

Governor Mai Mala Buni yesterday in Damaturu sworn in  Justice Gumna Kaigama as Acting Chief Judge (CJ) of Yobe State in line with the recommendation of the Yobe State Judicial Service Commission.

Buni said the appointment was based on merit and recommendation of Yobe State Judicial Service Commission.

“His appointment as Chief Judge of Yobe State is in conformity with the power conferred on me by Section 147 sub-section 2 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.”

Buni also stated that the new CJ possessed it takes to assume such a position.

“The new acting chief judge is known for his impartiality, hard work, simplicity, selflessness and fearlessness among other personal qualities.

“I am therefore confidence in his ability to discharge his duty effectively, in our collective quest for dispensation of Justice and harmonious working relationship between Executive Legislative and the Judicial arms of government in your state,” he said.

The CJ had obtained his Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B (Hons) from 1983 to 1987  in University of Maiduguri, Nigerian Law School, Lagos, Barrister at Law (B.L) 1987 to 1988.

He had his NYSC Kano State  from1987 to 1989. He was a Private Legal Practitioner from 1989 to 1995 and Chief Magistrate Grade from 1995 to 1996.

He was also the Chief Registrar in Sharia Court of Appeal, Damaturu from 1996 to 1999 and Judge High Court of Justice Damatutru before his appointment.

Neptun Prime also reports that his last assignments were Chairman, Zamfara State Election Petition Tribunal May-November 2011 and Chairman, Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal December 2019 to May 2020.
