Gov. Fintiri reaffirms commitment to tackling security challenges

Story from Usman IBRAHIM, Yola

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to address the security challenges in the state.

Fintiri stated this at a one-day capacity-building workshop for security stakeholders organised by the Nigeria Maritime Administrative and Security Agencies (NIMASA), in Yola on Thursday.

Fintiri, who was represented by his Security Adviser, Senabi Crowther, said that the administration in the last three years had achieved relative peace in the state.

He assured that the government would procure more sophisticated security gadgets to assist in detecting and tracking criminals.

He thanked NIMASA for the workshop, saying it could not have come at a better time than now.

He appreciated the efforts of security agencies in the state and urged them to do more.

Dr Bashir Jamoh, Director General of NIMASA called on the stakeholders to actively participate and proffer solutions to insecurity in the state and country at large.

Jamoh was represented by Hajiya Sadiqa Umar, Assistant Chief Public Relations Officer, NIMASA.

Also speaking, Dr Muhammad Suleiman, Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), identified kidnapping, the menace of vagabonds known as Shila Boys and communal clashes as the major security challenges in the state.

“We are all stakeholders in ensuring that there is adequate security in our areas, this is everyone’s business because if there is no security, there will be no peace for development and progress,” he said.

He said that the workshop would come up with recommendations and solutions to improve security in the state.

Dr Musa Maigana, a security expert, advocated for more synergy among state and non-state actors to ensure the security of lives and properties.

He said that it would help in information gathering and reporting to achieve the desired objective of ensuring security.
