Gov. Ortom loses senatorial race to former aide while Sen. Ningi retains Bauchi Central Senatorial seat

Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has lost his election bid for Benue North West Senatorial District in the National Assembly to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and his former appointee, Titus Zam.

The APC candidate polled 143,151 while the PDP scored 106,882 and the Labour Party 51,950.

Zam was an appointee of Ortom in his first tenure from 2015 to 2019, where he served as the Special Adviser to the governor on local government and chieftaincy affairs before he resigned from the Ortom administration on loyalty grounds.

Also, Senator Abdul Ahmad Ningi of the Peoples Democratic Party won the Bauchi Central Senatorial district in Saturday’s general election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer in Darazo, Prof. Ibrahim Muhammad Danjuma, declared that Sen. Abdul Ahmad Ningi of PDP scored 104,878 votes while Hon. Uba Ahmad Nana came second with 84,621 votes.

He explained that Senator Isah Hamma Misau of NNPP polled 17,995, adding that having been satisfied with the result and the requirement, Sen. Abdul Ahmad Ningi is declared the winner and returned elected.
