Gov. Zulum grants scholarships worth N62 million to law, French language students

Story from Maimunat MOHAMMAD

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has made a significant move by approving a generous scholarship program amounting to N62 million for financially disadvantaged students pursuing studies in law and French language immersion courses.

The announcement of this remarkable initiative was made by Bala Isa, the Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

The funding not only aims to support the students but also includes provisions for purchasing a vehicle and establishing a secretariat for the National Union of Borno State Students (NUBOSS).

According to Isa, “We extend our heartfelt thanks to Governor Zulum for his unwavering commitment to education and his dedication to being a governor who genuinely cares about the needs of students. We deeply appreciate the scholarships, the provision of a vehicle, and the establishment of a well-equipped office for our union.”

Under this scholarship program, 19 students from the six law school campuses across Nigeria will benefit from the program, which focuses on law studies. Additionally, five students studying in Benin Republic and other foreign students will receive support for their French language studies.

Isa highlighted the significance of French language proficiency for the people of Borno, given its proximity to French-speaking countries like Cameroon, Niger, and Chad.

He emphasized the government’s objective of promoting mastery of the language. As a result, the Borno State government is sponsoring students to pursue master’s degrees in French language studies.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to Governor Zulum for his unwavering commitment to education and his dedication to being a governor who genuinely cares about the needs of students. We deeply appreciate the scholarships, the provision of a vehicle, and the establishment of a well-equipped office for our union,” said Abubakar Wajiro, the National President of NUBOSS.
