Governor Bago mourns victims of Niger tanker explosion, pledges support

Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has expressed deep sorrow over the tanker explosion in Karamin Rami, Mashegu Local Government Area, which claimed seven lives and left one person injured.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor described the incident as “unfortunate, worrisome and traumatic.”
“It is a difficult moment for the state, and his prayers are with the families of the victims, the injured and entire people of the area,” the statement read.
Bago assured residents that his administration remains committed to improving road infrastructure across the state. He noted that the ongoing statewide road constructions were a testament to this commitment and vowed not to relent in these efforts.

He also urged tanker drivers and all road users to drive with caution and a sense of responsibility to prevent similar tragedies.
The governor prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a quick recovery. He pledged that the State Government, through the relevant MDAs, would provide necessary support to the survivors and families of the deceased.
Bago commended the swift response of the State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and urged them to conduct a thorough assessment to determine further interventions.
Neptune Prime recalls that the explosion occurred on Tuesday when a tanker, attempting to navigate a bad section of the road, overturned. The spilled fuel spread into a nearby stream where dry-season farmers were working on their rice fields.
The fuel reportedly ignited after coming into contact with a water pump, setting off a fire that spread back to the tanker and caused a massive explosion.
The fire further extended to farmlands through the contaminated stream, burning several farmers and destroying crops. The only surviving injured victim is currently receiving treatment at a local health centre.
