Gunmen abduct Anglican priest, son in Ondo, demand N10m ransom

An Anglican priest, Venerable Olu Obanla, and his son have been reportedly kidnapped by a yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Ondo State.

The priest and his son were abducted along Ifon/Okeluse road in Ose Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Saturday, May 21.

According to reports, the gunmen stopped the victims’ vehicle and dragged them down from their car before whisking them into the forest, leaving the vehicle behind.

A family source confirming the incident said the kidnappers had contacted the family of the victims, demanding the sum of N10 million ransom.

The source, however, said the family were able to raise N1million but the kidnappers rejected it.

“Venerable Olu Obanla and his son were kidnapped yesterday (Saturday) on their way to Okeluse in Ondo State,” the source explained.

“The kidnappers have contacted the family and ransom of N10 million was being demanded by the kidnappers but the family had raised N1 million which the kidnappers rejected.”

Spokesperson of the State police command, Funmilayo Odunlami, who also confirmed the incident, said efforts were ongoing by the detectives to rescue the victims.
