Gunmen attack, kill Delta university professor
Professor Emeka Chukwuma, a lecturer at Delta State University, Abraka, was tragically killed by unknown assailants on Friday.
The 56-year-old professor had returned to his hometown of Umueji in Asaba for his usual weekend visit when the incident occurred at his residence.
The rise in violent crimes, including killings and kidnappings, in Asaba has caused increasing concern among residents, who are now urging security forces to take stronger measures to protect lives and property in the area.
A source revealed, “Professor Chukwuma was murdered on Friday night in Asaba. He had been teaching at the Anwai campus of Delta State University, but later moved to the Abraka campus after the Anwai campus became Dennis Osadebey University.
He was returning home for his usual weekend visit when he was killed at his home in the St. Bridges area of Umueji. It’s heartbreaking, and the situation in Asaba is becoming increasingly unsafe. We are all left in confusion about what is happening.”
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and assured that an investigation is underway, saying, “The incident has been reported, and we are currently looking into it.”
