Gunmen attack voting centre, kill councillor during Anambra governorship election

Tension gripped Owerre Ezukala Ward 1 in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Saturday after gunmen attacked a voting centre, killing a local councillor amid the ongoing governorship election.
Eyewitnesses reported that the councillor was shot dead around 1:30 p.m. while attempting to cast his vote. The incident sparked panic and disrupted what had been a peaceful voting exercise in the area.

A community leader, Odogwu Odemenna, described the atmosphere as chaotic, lamenting that security operatives at the scene could not prevent the attack. “My ward is in flames as we speak. The councillor of my ward was shot dead this afternoon while trying to vote,” he said, adding that police and military personnel have since been deployed in pursuit of the assailants.
