Hakimi, Chebbak shine as Morocco dominates 2025 CAF awards

Morocco enjoyed a sweeping night of triumph at the 2025 CAF Awards as Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak claimed the top individual honours, beating Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Rasheedat Ajibade to the coveted prizes.

Hakimi, Morocco’s captain, was crowned African Men’s Player of the Year for the first time after a stellar season in which he won the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, the French Cup and the UEFA Super Cup with Paris Saint-Germain. The 27-year-old edged past former winners Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen to clinch the award.

Despite nursing a severe ankle sprain, Hakimi expressed gratitude to his family, teammates and coach Walid Regragui, and hopes to recover in time to lead Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations starting December 21.

On the women’s side, Al Hilal forward Ghizlane Chebbak was named African Women’s Player of the Year, surpassing Morocco’s Sanaa Mssoudy and Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade. Chebbak finished as the top scorer at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where Morocco fell to Nigeria in the final.

Morocco’s dominance continued as Yassine Bounou was awarded Best Men’s Goalkeeper, the country’s U-20 World Cup-winning team was voted Best Men’s National Team, and Watford’s 20-year-old Othmane Maamma clinched Best Young Men’s Player. Doha El Madani retained the Best Young Women’s Player award.
