The Yobe State Government has officially presented the letter of appointment to the new Mai Ngazargamu, Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud, following his approval by Governor Mai Mala Buni.
The appointment letter was handed over by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje, who led a high-powered government delegation to the emirate.
Speaking during the presentation, Goje said the appointment was made based on the recommendation of kingmakers and key stakeholders of the Ngazargamu Emirate, reflecting the confidence reposed in the new monarch by both the traditional institution and the state government.

He urged the Emir to work closely with government authorities and community members to foster peace, unity, and development across the emirate, stressing that social harmony remains critical to sustainable progress.
The appointment followed the passing of the former Mai Ngazargamu, Ahmad Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam, who died in Egypt after a prolonged illness and was later buried in Damaturu.
In his response, the new Emir expressed gratitude to Governor Buni, members of the State Executive Council, the Yobe State House of Assembly, and stakeholders from Geidam, Yunusari, and Bursari local government areas for the trust placed in him.

Before ascending the throne, Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud served as Turakin Ngazargamu for 16 years. He also represented his constituency in the Yobe State House of Assembly and later served as Commissioner for Livestock Development.
