Hisbah summons ‘Chronic Womaniser’ for posting photos of alleged lovers on Facebook
The Bauchi State Sharia Police, known as Hisbah, recently summoned Bala Muhammad, a 60-year-old man, for questioning after he shared numerous photos on Facebook allegedly depicting him with women he claims to have had intimate relationships with. The images, which quickly went viral, sparked an online uproar, with community members voicing concerns and advising married men in Bauchi to be cautious.
The social media posts reportedly featured nearly 30 photos of Muhammad posing alongside various women, many dressed in revealing attire. The images, perceived by some as improper, stirred heated debates online, drawing criticism and accusations that Muhammad was a “chronic womaniser.”
In an interview with the press, Muhammad Muhammad Bununu, Public Relations Officer for the Bauchi State Hisbah, confirmed that the Sharia police received a series of complaints from the families of the women seen in the photos. “We received complaints from multiple families and had no choice but to summon him for questioning,” Bununu explained. “He was initially detained by the police, but Hisbah requested his release on Thursday to allow for a deeper investigation.”

According to Hisbah and Police sources, Muhammad admitted during questioning that the photos were taken roughly 20 years ago when many of the women were unmarried. He expressed regret over his actions and issued an apology to the women and their families, acknowledging that the social media posts were in poor taste and had unintentionally brought embarrassment to the individuals involved.
Muhammad, who is unmarried and has no children, resides in Bauchi city and hails from Dass Local Government Area. He shared that it was his brother who alerted him to the viral status of the photos, which ultimately led to his detention and summons by Hisbah.
This case underscores the evolving intersection of cultural values, social media behavior, and traditional law enforcement. Hisbah authorities have stated that they will continue to assess the situation and consider any necessary measures to address community concerns surrounding the issue.
The incident has ignited wider discussions on privacy, personal conduct, and the role of social media in shaping reputations and public perceptions in the region. Hisbah has not yet disclosed any further legal actions against Muhammad but noted that the investigation remains ongoing.
