Hundreds decry alleged Anti-Nigeria remarks by president Trump in protest

Hundreds of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) took to the streets of Kano on Saturday to protest a viral statement attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump, allegedly hinting at a possible military strike on Nigeria.
According to reports, the mobilisation for the demonstration was largely driven through Hausa-language social media platforms, where viral posts claimed that the United States was planning an attack on Nigeria.
Videos circulating online showed large groups of youths marching through the city, chanting slogans, and calling for global condemnation of the alleged comments. Protesters urged Nigerians to stand firm in defense of the nation’s sovereignty.

“The statement is unacceptable. No foreign power has the right to threaten Nigeria. We are here to show that we will not tolerate any form of external aggression,” one protester said.
Observers noted that the protest reflects a growing wave of anti-American sentiment in some parts of northern Nigeria, fueled by misinformation, distrust of Western motives, and emotionally charged messages linking religion and national identity.
They warned that if such narratives go unchecked, they could heighten tension and be exploited by extremist or political elements for ulterior purposes.
