Supervisor hails smooth start of ITN distribution

The Team Supervisor at Waziri Ibrahim Extension in Damaturu, Mr. Muhammed bin Zakariyya, has applauded the seamless commencement of the Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) distribution campaign in Yobe State.

Speaking with our correspondent on Saturday in Damaturu, Bin Zakariyya said the exercise, which began on Friday, recorded a large turnout and strong cooperation from residents.

“We started the distribution yesterday and have so far issued over 488 treated nets. Today, we resumed by 8:30 a.m. after arriving as early as 7:00 a.m.,” he said.

He explained that the distribution runs daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., adding that the exercise had been progressing smoothly despite minor challenges with card validation.

“We encountered a few issues with invalid or duplicate token numbers, but we promptly resolved them through our coordination group,” he said.

Bin Zakariyya expressed satisfaction with the organisation and community response, describing the campaign as a crucial effort in the fight against malaria in the state.

He commended the Yobe State Government, the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), and development partners for ensuring effective coordination and logistics.

Yobe State had earlier benefited from mass ITN distributions in 2019 and 2021, which significantly reduced malaria cases, particularly among pregnant women and children under five.

The ongoing campaign aims to distribute over two million treated nets across all 17 local government areas of the state, with support from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

Residents have also expressed appreciation for the initiative.
