The newly defected Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated reasons why he left the party.

Matawalle who disclosed this on Wednesday in an interview with TOS TV NETWORK at Government House Gusau, a day after his official defection to the All Progressives Congress, said he left the PDP to bring peace to his state.

He said “I decided to change (political party) so that I can bring peace to my state.

“Now that we all belong to the ruling party, I now have the full backing of the federal government to fight insecurity.”

He advised his colleagues in the opposition party to do the same so that there can be sanity in their states.

The Governor gave a note of warning to the Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, saying he will not be intimated by threats to take him to court for his decision to defect.

“He should know I’m not a small boy, I don’t succumb to that type of intimidation. He should know I’m a fighter. Even when I was in the Courts they (PDP) didn’t give me any support. They should know they are fighting someone who is strong and they can’t do anything.

“They should go and read the constitution, they are ignorant of the law. I’m not the type of person they can intimidate,” Matawalle said.

Matawalle is not the first governor neither will he be the last to defect after he cited big wigs like the incumbent Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki who defected from the APC to PDP and during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, former Senate President and Kwara State Governor, Dr Bukola Saraki and many others.
