Solomon Tengu Micah is a young, dynamic leader, passionate humanitarian, and an advocate for mental health and social justice. Known for his resilience, innovative thinking, and dedication to service, Solomon has built an inspiring legacy of impact across various fields, including education, technology, community development, and global advocacy.
Early Life and Education
Born into a family where domestic violence was normalised, Solomon’s early life was marked by challenges that shaped his advocacy for justice and human rights. Inspired by his mother’s strength and determination, he initially aspired to become a lawyer to fight for the rights of the voiceless. However, after seven attempts at the JAMB exams, he pivoted to study the English Language at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria—a decision that became a turning point in his journey of self-discovery and growth.
Leadership and Campus Life
At ABU, Solomon’s leadership qualities quickly came to the forefront. As the 54th President of the National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies (NASELS), he spearheaded transformative projects, including the first-ever Black Arts Festival, which drew over 400 attendees and distinguished guests. He also served as the Vice President of the English and Literary Studies Department, Media Aide to the NANS JCC Chairman (Kaduna axis), and Special Adviser to the ABUSRC President on Class Representatives Affairs.
His leadership extended to volunteer roles with the ABUSRC Tutorials Committee, Rotary Club Lagos, and various student organisations, including Junior Chamber International (JCI) and ENACTUS. These roles showcased his ability to inspire and mobilise people toward common goals.
Humanitarian Work and Advocacy
Driven by his belief in the power of service, Solomon founded the PHARIS Foundation, through which he has supported less privileged individuals in Samaru communities. He has also volunteered with Volunteer Service Overseas, contributing to grassroots initiatives that uplift marginalised communities.
As a mental health advocate, Solomon has shared his personal journey with depression and suicide attempts to inspire others to seek help and break the stigma surrounding mental health. His participation as a panellist on NTA Kaduna State further amplified his advocacy, earning him respect as a voice for change.
Global and Technological Impact
Solomon’s influence extends beyond Nigeria. As a UN Fellow and McCain Global Leaders Programme participant, he has worked on conflict resolution and peacebuilding in Africa and the Middle East. His role as an Echo Global Change Ambassador connects him with a diverse community of over 600 ambassadors from 80+ countries, allowing him to address global challenges with innovative solutions.
In the realm of technology, Solomon is a cybersecurity enthusiast, technophile, and certified virtual assistant with ALX. As a Tecno Campus Ambassador, he has bridged the gap between students and technological opportunities, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in a digital world.
Achievements and Recognition
Solomon’s contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the titles of “Most Influential Student” and “Most Trending Student.” His thought-provoking interview, “It is Better to Be Known by Name Than to Be Known by Picture,” showcased his insights and vision for a better society.
Philosophy and Vision
Having travelled to 28 states in Nigeria, Solomon describes himself as the “most detribalized Nigerian,” valuing humanity above divisions of ethnicity or religion. He often says, “My religion is Humanity,” underscoring his commitment to unity and understanding.
To young people, Solomon offers these words of encouragement: “Your challenges do not define you. Embrace every opportunity, remain consistent, and always seek to uplift others. In doing so, you will create a legacy that transcends generations.”
Today, Solomon Tengu Micah stands as a beacon of hope, resilience, and inspiration. His life is a testament to the power of determination, service, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Solomon continues to inspire young people to dream big, overcome challenges, and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world.
