Insurgency: Kidnappers abduct travellers, injure soldier along Abuja-Kaduna road

On Friday, September 4, 2020, along Abuja to Kaduna road, suspected kidnappers blocked the way near Olam company, which is 28 kilometres to Kaduna and abducted many travellers and injured several others who attempted to flee.

A traveller who escaped from the abductors Ibrahim Baba Suleiman, the spokesperson of the Islamic group ‘Jamaatul Izalatul Bidi’a Wa Ikamatus Sunnah’ (JIBWIS) narrated the incident to Daylight Reporters.

According to him, the incident occurred around 2 pm while he was coming back from Abuja.

He said their attention was drawn to the kidnappers by a fleeing soldier who was shot on the chest by the gunmen, adding that another man and his wife also sustained gunshots.

He said, although, nobody died during the operation, the incident had kept more than 1, 000 motorists stranded on the road.

Ibrahim further noted that succour was later brought to the travellers after an hour by some soldiers and policemen numbering 15 who chased the hoodlums and cleared the road for the motorists to pass.

A reporter who put a call to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP, Mohammed Jalige could not get his final response as the call ended abruptly and thereafter didn’t respond to other calls as at the time of filing this report.
