Story from Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

An International Women forum for inclusion, leadership and participation on Wednesday declared the Yobe state Women-Led Network a pacesetter and role model on participation of women and girls in humanitarian action, risk-informed recovery and resilience in the country.

The forum organised by UN-women was attended by various women organisations from the Lake Chad Basin region which include Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, Chad and other neighbouring countries.

Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of Yobe Women-Led Network, Hajiya Husna Ibrahim, appreciated the numerous efforts of the network in advancing gender equality, Women Participation and Leadership in close collaboration with the Yobe State Ministry of Women Affairs with the technical support of the UN women.

She noted that the progress made by the Yobe State government in the implementation of the Regional Stabilisation Strategy (RSS) of the Lake Chad Basin through strategic engagement and advocacy have been built on the TAP pillar Political Cooperation and Pillar-9 Empowerment and inclusion of women and youth programme.

In her presentation, she also talked about inclusive governance where the government provides opportunities for women participation in elective and appointive positions.

She further appealed for Participation of more Women-Led Network across all Humanitarian Sectors especially on the Gender Based Violence (GBV) of which, according to her, is becoming a plague.
