IPAC calls for postponement
of Yobe LG elections over farm activities

Chairmen of 17 various polical parties in Yobe State have called on the State Electoral Independent Commission (SIEC) to postpone the proposed local government council elections earlier slated to hold in November, 2023.

The Chairman, Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Yobe State, Comrade Bala Mohammed, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Tuesday in Damaturu.

He said the raining season sets in very late in Yobe State and now that the rain has intensified, people of the state are heavily engaged in their farming activities.

Mohammed stated that September, November is the peak of the farming season in the region which is not comfortable for any political activity.

He noted that, “It is in view of the farming season that Chairmen from across 17 political parties in the state seeks the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to postpone the elections and fix a new date, preferably after the harvest to allow the people to actively participate and avoid disenfranching their rights.

“A true democracy is all about getting the people involved and to participate. We therefore appealed to the State Electoral Independent Commission and Yobe State Government to heed to our request in the interest of justice and fair play and postpone the election,” said Yobe IPAC Chairman.
