ITN and SMC Distribution Records Success in Yusufari LGA
The Health Promotion Officer of Yusufari Local Government Area, Mr. Umar Ali, has commended the progress of the ongoing distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) and Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) drugs across the local government area.
Speaking to a YBC reporter in Yusufari today, Mr. Ali described the exercise as “appreciable at all levels,” noting that the distribution team has strictly adhered to the Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) standards. He explained that the team carried out a successful house-to-house distribution of ITN e-tokens and SMC drugs despite logistical challenges in some wards.
According to him, certain areas such as Tulotulowa, Bulatura, Simbar Mayori, and Yusufari town were difficult to access due to sand dunes and rough terrain. However, he said the team worked tirelessly to ensure that all wards were covered and that households received the malaria prevention packages.

Mr. Ali stated that community awareness efforts have increased public eagerness to collect the ITNs. He, however, noted that the growing population has created a shortage of nets in some wards, assuring that every targeted household would be reached before the exercise concludes.
He commended the Yusufari Local Government Council under the leadership of the Chairman, Alhaji Yusuri, for providing vehicles and logistical support that enabled the team to reach remote areas. He also lauded the cooperation of traditional leaders, adding that the Yusufari Emirate played a vital role in sensitization and mobilization at the community level.

The Health Promotion Officer further expressed appreciation to the Yobe State Government, led by Governor Mai Mala Buni, for its continuous support to primary health care programs in the state. He particularly commended the Director of Primary Health Care in Yusufari, whom he described as a “resilient leader,” for his timely coordination and dedication toward achieving the desired success of the campaign.
