Iwobi, Ndidi, Iheanacho locked in UK

Super Eagle stars Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi and six other Nigerian players plying their trade in England have been locked down in the United Kingdom for at least three weeks after the British government announced a dramatic move to shut down the country and try to stop the virus.

This sanction comes after Britons flouted social distancing law in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

In an address on Monday night, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said family reunions, weddings, baptisms and other social events must be cancelled to stop the NHS collapsing under the strain although funerals can go ahead.

“All over the world, we’re seeing the devastating impact of this invisible killer. Tonight (Monday) I want to update you on the latest steps we’re taking to fight the disease and what you can do to help,” Johnson said.

Johnson also revealed that people can only leave home except for food, medical treatment, daily exercise or travel to essential work, else the police would step in.

Sports Extra can also report that the Nigerian players playing in England would be kept apart until at least May 1 while top-flight clubs are not expecting to return to action until at least June 1.
