Jewelries worth $350,000 go missing from EFCC’s Lagos office

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is currently embroiled in a significant scandal involving the alleged disappearance of large sums of money and valuables from its Lagos Zonal Command.

According to credible sources, between $350,000 and $400,000 has gone missing, along with high-end jewelry and other valuable items.

This troubling development comes just days after the EFCC dismissed 27 of its officers for misconduct and fraudulent activities.

The dismissals, which followed recommendations from the EFCC Staff Disciplinary Committee and approval by the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, have raised serious questions about the agency’s internal oversight and accountability.

An investigation into the missing funds is already underway, but the EFCC is now under intense scrutiny as it struggles to restore public confidence. Known for its role as the leading agency in the fight against financial crimes, the EFCC is facing growing concerns about weaknesses in its internal controls.

Efforts to contact the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, for comments have been unsuccessful, and the lack of an official response is fueling further doubts about the agency’s transparency and its commitment to addressing allegations of misconduct.

As the investigation progresses, questions remain about what steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future and how the EFCC can regain public trust in its ability to combat corruption.

This scandal underscores the challenges the agency faces in maintaining its reputation for integrity and accountability in Nigeria’s financial system.
