Jos Killings: Lagos Gov’t evacuates 69 students from UNIJOS

The Lagos State Government has on Friday evacuated 69 students who were stranded in Jos, Plateau State.

The government received emergency calls from the students who said they were stranded after some gunmen killed 36 people in Yelwa Zangam community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

They comprised students who are indigenes and residents of Lagos State and schooling at the University of Jos.

The students were received by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab who was represented by Permanent Secretary, OSAE, Mr Adeniran Kasali at the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa.

The Lagos State Governor, Sanwo-Olu, had on Monday directed the Office of the Special Adviser on Education, Tokunboh Wahab, to ensure that all students from the State were brought back from the embattled zone safe and sound.

The Governor was said to have taken the decision as part of the strategy to prevent the students from becoming victims of attacks after a thorough analysis of the crisis rocking Plateau state.

To ensure that the students returned easily, the Special Adviser’s office was said to have approached the governor with the strategy for evacuation which was approved immediately.
