KACRAN calls for increased funding to tackle insecurity
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has urged the National Assembly to allocate additional funding to the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development in a bid to address Nigeria’s rising insecurity.
As various federal ministries, parastatals, and directorates present their budget proposals for the 2025 fiscal year, KACRAN is appealing for prioritization of the Ministry of Livestock Development, which was created by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The association believes that the ministry plays a key role in resolving the ongoing conflict between herders and farmers, boosting food security, and improving economic productivity.
KACRAN expressed optimism about the ministry’s potential under the leadership of Honourable Alhaji Idi Muktar, the pioneer minister and a seasoned livestock farmer. Other key leadership figures include Permanent Secretary Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, a veterinary doctor, and Mrs. Winnie Lai Solarin, the Director of Animal Husbandry Services. KACRAN believes their expertise and commitment will propel the ministry’s success.
The association also highlighted the importance of the ministry’s role in empowering the often marginalized beneficiaries in remote areas, particularly herders, who have historically had limited access to government services.

KACRAN emphasized that the Ministry of Livestock Development lacks essential infrastructure and requires significant funding to function effectively. Without adequate financial support, the ministry could face challenges in achieving its objectives, potentially hindering its ability to address the critical issues facing the livestock sector.
The association further warned that insufficient funding would not only impede the ministry’s growth but could also have broader negative consequences for Nigeria’s economy, as the livestock sector is a significant contributor to both food security and national revenue.
KACRAN is calling on the National Assembly to increase the proposed budget for the Ministry of Livestock Development, urging lawmakers to multiply or even triple the allocation to ensure the ministry’s success. The association believes that such a move would promote agricultural growth, create jobs, foster economic development, and help resolve the long-standing tensions between herders and farmers.
The association concluded by praising President Tinubu for his commitment to the sector and urged Northern Governors to follow suit by establishing similar ministries in their states.
