KACRAN commend Minister for championing livestock development, peace efforts

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has applauded the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Maiha, for his unwavering commitment to transforming Nigeria’s livestock sector and fostering peace between herders and farmers.

In a statement signed by KACRAN’s National President, Hon. Khalil Moh’d Bello, the association commended the Minister’s active engagement at a recent two-day workshop organised by the Ministry of Livestock Development in collaboration with the British SPRING Project. The event focused on innovative strategies to boost livestock productivity and strengthen relations between pastoral and farming communities.

“The Minister’s speech was powerful and deeply resonated with all stakeholders present. His extensive knowledge and hands-on experience as a livestock farmer have given fresh hope to pastoralists nationwide,” the statement read.

KACRAN highlighted the Minister’s emphasis on peacebuilding, noting his condemnation of conflicts involving herders and farmers. During the workshop, he screened a video showing cases of pastoralist youths damaging crops—an act he strongly disapproved of—while calling for collective efforts to prevent such incidents.

The Minister further urged pastoralist leaders to take proactive steps in supporting the government’s livestock agenda. He set a two-week deadline for identifying suitable land for grazing reserves and feed cultivation, stressing the importance of self-reliance through the establishment of cooperative banks instead of over-reliance on government and donor support.

KACRAN pledged its full support for the Ministry’s initiatives, expressing optimism that under Alhaji Maiha’s leadership, Nigeria could emerge as a key player in the global livestock and dairy market.

“We encourage all pastoralist associations to align with this vision and contribute towards a more sustainable and prosperous livestock sector,” the statement concluded.
