KACRAN urges Tinubu to fast-track Ministry of livestock development’s operations
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has raised concerns over the delayed operationalisation of the Ministry of Livestock Development, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent action.
The association decried that nearly eight months after the ministry’s creation on July 9, 2024, its permanent office remains unrenovated, slowing down critical policies and programmes aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s livestock sector.
“When the Ministry was established, Nigeria’s pastoralists saw it as a long-awaited solution to decades of neglect in the livestock sector,” KACRAN’s National President, Hon. Khalil Moh’d Bello, stated. “However, the lack of progress has been deeply disappointing, preventing the Ministry from fulfilling its role in ensuring food security and boosting the national economy.”
KACRAN noted that the ministry currently lacks the resources and infrastructure needed to function effectively, describing its present state as akin to a directorate of animal husbandry services rather than a fully operational ministry.

The association also expressed concern over the insufficient budgetary allocation for 2025, warning that without adequate funding, the ministry’s objectives would remain unattainable.
“We urge President Tinubu to prioritise the renovation and operationalisation of the Ministry’s office,” Bello stated, adding that “immediate action is needed to enable its leadership and staff to drive livestock development in Nigeria.”
KACRAN further called on the federal government to increase investment in the livestock sector, emphasising its potential to enhance the nation’s GDP, strengthen food security, and reduce Nigeria’s heavy reliance on imported milk and food products.
The association, however, commended President Tinubu for appointing Professor Muhammadu Attahiru Jega as an Advisor on Presidential Livestock Reform Programs, expressing hope that his expertise would help steer the ministry towards achieving its mandate.
KACRAN’s appeal comes amid growing concerns that delays in implementing key policies could hinder the growth of Nigeria’s livestock sector, which plays a crucial role in the country’s food supply and rural economy.
