Kano Gov dismisses commissioner who threatened judges

Story from Saleh Inuwa, Kano

In an unprecedented move, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has acted decisively by firing the Commissioner who made threats towards judges presiding over the governorship elections petition tribunal in the state.

A viral video circulating on social media captured Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, Adamu Kibiya, making alarming statements to the judges, essentially pressuring them to choose between their lives and their professional duties during the announcement of judgments.

During a press conference held at the Government House in Kano on Friday, Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, relayed the governor’s decision to immediately relieve Commissioner Kibiya of his duties.

Additionally, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf sanctioned the dismissal of his Special Adviser on Youth and Sports, Aliyu Yusuf Imam, popularly known as ‘Ogan Boye,’ due to his reckless and disrespectful comments.

Commissioner Dantiye emphasized that the remarks made by Kibiya and Oga Boye do not align with the official position of the State Government.

As part of this new directive, the government has made it explicitly clear that no government official should speak on matters outside the purview of their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) without obtaining prior clearance and permission.
