Kano Gov’t allocates N99.9 million for Nassarawa palace renovation amid emirship tussle

In the midst of the ongoing emirship controversy, the Kano State government has allocated N99.9 million for the renovation of the Nassarawa mini palace, currently occupied by the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

Halilu Dantiye, the State’s Commissioner of Information, disclosed this during a briefing on the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Abba Yusuf. The funds are designated for repairing the palace’s defective wall, fence, and surroundings.

This decision follows the government’s order for the Commissioner of Police to evict Emir Bayero from the palace, citing trespassing on government property, and plans for its demolition and renovation.

The N99.9 million allocation is part of a broader N8.6 billion budget for various projects across health, education, water supply, and agriculture in the state.

However, the allocation has sparked criticism from the War Against Injustice (WAI) group, which denounced it as a misallocation of resources. Comrade Umar Ibrahim, the group’s Executive Director, urged the government to prioritize projects that benefit the common people, such as improving primary schools and healthcare facilities.

“This gross misallocation of resources is unacceptable when primary schools and healthcare facilities in Kano State are in a state of disrepair,” Ibrahim stated, calling for a redirection of funds to more impactful projects.
