Kano Gov’t donates N5 million to old students association
The Kano State Government has donated the sum of five million naira (5,000,000) to the Kano Science Schools Old Students Association (KASSOSA).
Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna made the statement on Sunday while representing Governor Abdullahi Ganduje at the 950 million naira fundraising event organised by KASSOSA, held at the Convocation Arena of Bayero University Kano.

At the event, Gawuna stressed the importance for the old students’ associations to contribute towards the growth, progress and development of their alma mater.
He noted that when old students give back to their colleges, they assist the government in the sense that the funds will be used to get new facilities and improve on research, adding that the association should instil such ideas in the current students and the future ones.
Gawuna, therefore, commended the efforts of KASSOSA for their determination and commitment to developing their alma mater.
The Deputy Governor also explained that the state government gives education utmost priority being the key to the development of any society.
“The administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has been giving attention to science colleges in the state and will continue to do more in that direction.
“Kano State Government is proud of the products of the science colleges, many of whom have excelled in their chosen professional careers across the globe,” he said.
He assured the leadership of KASSOSA of more commitment and support from the state government while announcing the donation of N5 million to KASSOSA on behalf of the state government and also his personal donation of N2 million being a former student of the college.
In his remarks, the National President of KASSOSA, Pharmacist Ghali Sule said the idea of the fundraising was nurtured by the present executive members of the association when they came on board.
“We deemed it fit to mobilise resources and support the government’s effort of imparting quality education to the teeming populace, this is following a realisation that the science colleges need rehabilitation and that the responsibility should not be left for the government alone to shoulder it”.
He assured that transparency and due process would be followed in the utilization of the funds generated.
The occasion was attended by a former Deputy Governor, Engr. A.T.M Gwarzo; Fagacin Kano, Alh. Habibu Bello Dan Kadai; heads of tertiary institutions and former students of the science colleges.
