Kano PDP faction rejects state congress for lack of fairness

The faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has rejected the state congress conducted on Saturday.

Engineer Ahmad Rufa’i Dagumawa, a 2023 House of Representatives candidate for the Wudil/Garko federal constituency and chairman of the Kano PDP House of Representatives contenders for the 2023 general election, distanced himself from the state congress at a news conference on Sunday.

The faction said that the process lacked the necessary transparency, inclusiveness, and fairness that are fundamental to upholding the democratic ideals of the party.

“Today, October 13, 2024, we are here to express our feelings and opinions as members of the PDP.

“Yesterday, we received information about the so-called state congress following unrecognised ward and local government congresses in Kano.

“These congresses were characterised by abnormality, a lack of internal democracy and electoral processes.

“As real card-carrying members of the party, we do not recognise anything related to the state congress here in Kano,” he added.

“We are appealing to the new national leadership of the party not to recognise these congresses, from the ward level up to the state congresses, which were conducted illegally,” he said.

“And we are congratulating the newly appointed national chairman of our great party, PDP Alhaji Yayari Ahmad,” he concluded.
