Kano teenager kills Imam for teaching against illicit drug consumption
In Kano State, an 18-year-old suspected thug named Yusuf Haruna, popularly known as Lagwatsani, allegedly stabbed 45-year-old Imam Sani Shuaibu to death on December 31, 2023.
The gruesome incident occurred in Jakara Quarters, Kano, while the Imam was performing ablution.
According to the spokesperson of the Kano Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the motive behind the attack was the Imam’s act of cautioning Lagwatsani and his gang against smoking Indian hemp around the mosque premises.
In response to this warning, Lagwatsani reportedly attacked the Imam with a sharp knife, inflicting a fatal wound to his back.
The victim, Imam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu, was swiftly rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where medical professionals confirmed his tragic demise.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
