Lagos police launches special team to investigate Mohbad’s mysterious death

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has officially launched a 19-member special investigation team tasked with uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of the rising Afrobeat artist known as Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba.

The police chief made this announcement during a press briefing held at the State Police Command in Ikeja, Lagos.

Present at the briefing were the father of the late musician, Mr. Aloba Joseph, the deceased’s grandmother, Mrs. Felicia Adedare, and an aunt of the musician.

Owohunwa explained that following a preliminary review of the incident, the police had decided to establish this special investigation team.

“Based on facts, insinuation and allegations both in social media and the course of interactions with strategic elements linked to the incident, there are grounds to open a case of homicide for the deceased 27-year-old musician with his death that occurred on the 12th September 2023.’’

The commissioner emphasized that due to the overwhelming public interest and the pursuit of justice, the Lagos State Police Command is constituting the panel and also inaugurating it with the following terms of reference to aggregate all allegations and suspicion from all sources, both open sources in the course of interaction with the family, friends and medical sources to establish facts, identify a piece of vital evidence that may support a criminal investigation.

“To deploy all forensic, technical and vital assets towards the investigation process of this nature.

“To identify all actors and elements that might be remotely or directly connected to the allegation that we are investigating which includes witnesses, friends, associates, and citizens to come forward with the reports.

‘’The committee is to carry out a discreet investigation which covers the following areas, exhumation, autopsy, scene visit, hospital, medical report, records of suspects, witnesses statements,’’ he said.
