Landmark Verdict: Tribunal rejects APM’s bid against Tinubu-Shettima nomination
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Abuja, has dismissed the petition filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) challenging the nomination of Kashim Shettima as the vice-presidential candidate alongside President Bola Tinubu.
The judgment, delivered by Haruna Simon Tsammani, followed deliberations with fellow panel members: Justice Stephen Jonah Adah, Justice Mistura Bolaji-Yusuf, Justice Boloukuoromo Moses Ugo, and Justice Abba Bello Mohammed.
The tribunal deemed the APM’s petition an abuse of the court process, as it had already been heard in another court and was not filed within the designated period for election-related matters.

Justice Tsamman further ruled that the APM lacked the standing to challenge Shettima’s nomination as the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election.
During the hearing in Abuja, four lawyers represented the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APM, in a suit numbered CA/PEPC/04/2023, sought the nullification of Tinubu’s election, citing concerns about the double nomination of the APC’s vice-presidential candidate and Shettima.
