On Monday, October 26, 2020, the National Broadcasting Station (NBC) sanctioned three major broadcast stations, Channels Television, AIT and Arise TV over their alleged roles in the escalation of violence across the nation during the #EndSARS protests.
NBC Acting Director-General, Professor Armstrong Idachaba, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja.
Idachaba said the affected media houses were fined N3 million each for flouting the provisions of the Nigerian broadcasting code.
He warned that any station that continued to broadcast hate and inciting comments that threaten the security of the country would be shut down.
The stations were accused of airing unverified images of the alleged shooting.
The protest, which began on a peaceful note has since gone violent, with many states experiencing destructions and looting of public and private properties.
