Channels TV cameraman laid to rest, Bala Mohammed offers wife job
Kani Ben, a veteran cameraman with Channels Television, has been laid to rest in Kangling, Girei Local Government Area, Adamawa State, following his death from injuries sustained in a motor accident on February 15, 2026.
The crash, which occurred along Duguri Road, involved 14 people, including journalists covering a North East Development Commission (NEDC) project commissioning. Ben, 44, had been receiving treatment for his injuries before his passing.
At the burial ceremony on Saturday, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by the Commissioner of Information, expressed condolences to the family and the journalism community. The Governor also announced that Ben’s wife, Sarah, would be automatically employed into the Bauchi State Civil Service, providing support to the bereaved family.

Tributes poured in from colleagues and officials who described Ben as a dedicated professional, humble, and highly respected among his peers. The NEDC also mourned his passing, expressing sympathies to the family and fellow journalists affected by the accident.
Governor Bala Mohammed had earlier visited the injured journalists at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) to ensure they received proper medical care.
The funeral service included prayers, tributes, and appreciation for the support from government officials, highlighting the impact Ben had on the Nigerian media landscape.
