Machina LGA records 94% success in SMC/ITN e-token distribution
The Health Promotion Officer of Machina Local Government Area, Umar Chiroma Adamu, has described the ongoing distribution of Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) drugs and Insecticide Treated Net (ITN) e-tokens as a resounding success, recording 94% coverage across the ten wards of the LGA.
Speaking to reporters in Machina, Adamu commended the strong support received from the local government leadership, particularly the Chairman of Machina LGA, Honourable Ajiya Idriss, for providing vital logistics including four vehicles to facilitate the movement of distribution teams across the wards.
He explained that the exercise faced minor challenges in Falmaram and Komkomma wards due to a temporary shortage of ITN token cards, but the issue was swiftly addressed. “The teamwork and commitment of the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) partners contributed immensely to the overall success,” he said.
According to the HPO, all wards have successfully received their ITN e-token cards and SMC drugs, ensuring that households were properly reached. He revealed that an initial shortfall of 500 ITN cards on the fourth day was later covered through prompt intervention.

Adamu further noted that Dole Machina ward, with its large population, received special attention, while the Maskandare ward posed logistical challenges due to its desert terrain and strong winds. “Despite the harsh environment, our teams worked tirelessly to reach every household,” he added.
He appreciated the role of volunteers who supported the effort, including a resident who anonymously provided his vehicle and fuel for the exercise, citing his admiration for the Chairman’s dedication to community service. Hon. Ajiya Idriss described the individual as a “good Samaritan deserving of a state award” for his contribution.
The HPO lauded the Emir of Machina, His Highness Alhaji Bukar Albashir Machinama, for his daily supervision and encouragement throughout the ten-day distribution. He also praised the traditional rulers, district heads, and ward teams for their active participation.

“Machina stands out in health program organization because of unity, leadership, and community commitment,” Adamu concluded, advising other LGAs to emulate Machina’s model of teamwork and leadership support.
