From Junaid Jibril Maiva, Maiduguri
There have been mixed reactions among Maiduguri residents after the Chief of Army Staff’s directive to arrest Boko Haram leader.
Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai gave an order to the Theater Commander, ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’ to produce the dreaded Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau dead or alive within the next 40 days.
Neptune Prime’s Correspondent in Maiduguri has gathered that residents of Maiduguri have expressed mixed feelings about the development.
Doctor Suleiman Sykami said “it is a welcome development,” and wished the army “all the best and success in the operation. Our prayers and hearts are with the Nigerian Army.”
Kachallah Ibrahim while applauding the directive, also called on the Nigerian Army to continue to tackle Suicide Bombers regardless of the forty days ultimatum.
Another resident, Zannama Auno was not swayed by the directive as he recalled sadly that “the Nigerian Army has claimed to have killed the Boko Haram leader several times in the past. Five times to be precise,” he lamented.
Also, while reacting, Emmanuel Fanjuma admonished that the Army should not announce such decisions publicly. “What of if he runs away?” he asked.
However, Ismail Muhammad Gana and Emmanuel Pius Kashanda, commended the Army and called for collective efforts of citizens to support the Army to succeed in its mission.
“Instead of all the noise, let’s pray collectively for the army to succeed.” they urged.
