City who are on course for a treble in the season dominated a larger part of the first half until United leveled the game after they were awarded a penalty as captain Bruno Fernandes delivered a fine strike at the centre of the box to make it 1-1 in the 33rd minute.

The battle for the soul of Manchester resumed as both teams returned on the pitch for the second half.

City quickly took over possession after United were perhaps confused in the midfield area. It was a corner set piece in the 51st minute after Kevin De Bruyne’s cross untouched and headed straight to Gundogan who volley undeflected needed just a push from De Gea in far right of the post and the ball went in to make it 2-1 giving City the winning goal.
