Manchester City took full advantage of Arsenal’s shock defeat to Aston Villa to narrow the gap at the top of the Premier League, securing a comfortable 3‑0 victory over Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Rúben Dias opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a thunderous 25‑yard strike into the top corner, before Joško Gvardiol doubled City’s lead with a towering header from a corner just four minutes later. Phil Foden sealed the win in the 65th minute, heading in a sublime cross from rising star Rayan Cherki, whose inventive rabona assist left Sunderland’s defence flat-footed.

The win marks City’s seventh consecutive home league victory and reduces the gap to Arsenal to just two points following the Gunners’ unexpected loss at Aston Villa earlier in the day.
