Man steals goat for daughter’s naming ceremony

Operatives of the Odeda Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 31-year-old man, Akintoye Waris, for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat valued at ₦200,000. The stolen goat was reportedly used to prepare meals for his daughter’s naming ceremony.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed on Saturday that the arrest occurred on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda area of Ogun State. Akintoye was apprehended alongside his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf.

The duo allegedly invaded a farm on December 25, taking advantage of the absence of the farm owner, simply identified as Mark, who had taken his cattle for grazing. Upon discovering a missing goat, Mark raised an alarm, prompting a community-wide search.

Villagers confirmed sighting the suspects on a motorcycle with the goat, heading towards Olodo town. Acting on this information, police detectives arrested the suspects in the early hours of January 2.

The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation at the Divisional Crime Branch. Odutola assured residents that the culprits would be prosecuted once investigations conclude.
