Despite being former teammates at Barcelona, Ronaldinho has declared that Lionel Messi is simply the best player of his time, rather than the best player in football’s history.
The Argentine claimed an unprecedented sixth Ballon d’Or earlier in December, beating Virgil van Dijk to the honour for 2019.
“I can’t say Messi is the best ever, but he is the best of his time,” Ronaldinho explained.
“I’m happy for Messi because he is a friend, besides he has been a reference point for Barcelona.
“I don’t like comparisons because it’s hard to identify who is the best in history, there is Diego Maradona, Pele, and Ronaldo.”
The former Gremio prodigy was in Mexico as part of his continued charitable endeavors, and he spoke of his pride to be in the North American country.
“It’s a pleasure to be here,” he added.
“Thank you for your love of a kind and gentle people.
“I hope to have a good time with all of you, where football will be involved.”
