Misappropriation of funds: Youth group demands probe of NEDC financial activities (Video)

The North East Youth Progressive Forum of Nigeria (NEYPFN) has expressed dissatisfaction with the way the Northeast development commission (NEDC) has been delivering projects to the IDPs and youths in the 6 geo-political zones of the northeast region.

Chairman of the youth forum, Comrade Maina Bukar levelled these allegations in an exclusive interview with Neptune Prime on Monday in Abuja.

The group also accused the Managing Director of North-East Development Commission (NEDC), Mohammed Goni Alkali of alleged diversion of the commission’s funds, enriching himself, family and friends with budgets approved for projects in the region.

The youth forum alleged that the management of the NEDC, under the leadership of Alkali has done nothing tangible to alleviate the poverty situation of people suffering in the region, which is contrary to the commission’s mandate of rebuilding critical infrastructures in the northeast, alleging there is massive corruption, involving billions of naira at the commission.

The youth’s organization said the management of the NEDC is just diverting funds for their personal use, forgetting people whom they supposed to cater for, they alleged that funds meant for IDPs in the northeast have disappeared, with no tangible project done over the years, despite the billions of naira fueled into the commission’s account and various donations the NEDC received from foreign agencies.

Watch the video below;

The forum revealed that people in the northeast are wallowing in abject poverty with hunger and sickness everywhere.

The forum, while appreciating the President’s concern to the people of the northeast by establishing the commission, pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to officially disband the present management of the NEDC and set up a caretaker committee which will allow free investigation into the financial misappropriations in the commission.

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC)  is a federal government agency charged with the responsibilities to receive and manage funds from allocation of the Federal Account and international donors for the settlement, rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads, houses and business premises of victims of insurgency as well as tackling,ssg the menace of poverty, illiteracy level, ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the North-East states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe respectively.
