Mobilise to site or risk contract termination, Umahi tells Julius Berger, others

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has issued a stern warning to major construction firms, Julius Berger, China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), and Reynolds Construction Company (RCC), demanding they mobilize to the site or face contract termination.

Speaking at the Stakeholders’ Engagement on Alignment of 3b and 4 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday, Umahi stated that any contractor who failed to mobilise after the expiration of the 14-day notice next week would have their contract terminated.

Umahi expressed his disappointment over the contractors’ excuses of non-payment of compensation, noting that the Akwa Ibom State government had already addressed the compensation issues related to the Calabar-Itu road.

“If you talk to them, they will say it is because of compensation and this governor, Akwa-Ibom State, had settled compensation issues, so we are giving them a marching order to ECECC to mobilise at least 3 sections of that road,” he said.

Umahi emphasized that President Bola Tinubu had allocated sufficient funds to the projects. He warned that if Julius Berger and CCECC did not mobilise to the site, the projects would be reassigned to more competent contractors.
