NAFDAC raids Bauchi market, seizes counterfeit Milo drinks

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Bauchi State office, has begun a three-day operation in markets across Bauchi State to remove counterfeit Milo chocolate drinks from circulation.

Dr. Paul Kamai announced this on Wednesday to newsmen in Bauchi.

“The NAFDAC office began inspections in markets and superstores to remove counterfeit Milo from circulation following a directive from Headquarters.

“This exercise will last for three days, starting Tuesday,” he said.

The state director also mentioned that the agency has scheduled a meeting within the week to discuss with the leadership of the Association of Agrochemical Dealers the dangers of chemicals on food.

“In Bauchi, we will engage agrochemical dealers about the use of Dichlorvos and Paraquat chemicals for food storage as we approach the harvest period.

“These are dangerous chemicals that have been banned for some time,” he added.

Kamai also urged bakers and packaged water producers to renew their licenses within the stipulated two-year timeframe.

He said that failure to renew operational licenses could result in penalties that might affect business operations.

Kamai also urged small and medium enterprises to register their products with NAFDAC to facilitate their integration into Nigerian markets.
