Story by Mercy Adaje

The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated sharply on Tuesday as the faction of the National Executive Committee aligned with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, approved the expulsion of several prominent party figures.

Those affected include Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal. Also expelled were former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara; former National Vice Chairman, Bode George; and the newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, SAN.

The sweeping expulsions come just days after a contentious national convention in Ibadan, where Wike and his supporters were themselves removed from the party.

Tensions reached a boiling point on Tuesday at the PDP national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, as the rival factions clashed while attempting to hold parallel NEC and Board of Trustees meetings, further deepening the uncertainty surrounding the party’s leadership and direction.
