NAFDAC seizes fake medications valued at ₦300 million
Officials from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against fake pharmaceuticals, uncovering counterfeit medicines during a recent raid in Lagos.
The operation targeted the Tyre Village at the Trade Fair Complex, where NAFDAC agents seized a range of fake drugs, including Amoxicillin 500mg, Ampiclox capsules 500mg, and packaging materials for Augmentin capsules 625mg.
The facility involved has been placed under a HOLD order, and all illegal products have been removed.
In a statement, NAFDAC confirmed that the recovered counterfeit medicines are valued at over ₦300 million.
These substandard drugs pose serious health risks, including treatment failure, organ damage, and potential carcinogenic effects due to their unknown compositions.
NAFDAC has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to their nearest office to help curb the spread of counterfeit medicines.
