NAMA resumes collection of $300 helicopter landing fee

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has disclosed plans to reinstate the controversial $300 landing fee for helicopter operators across the country.
Speaking at the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Association in Kano, Tayo John, NAMA’s Director of Air Traffic Services, confirmed that the agency would soon resume the collection of the fee, which had been suspended months ago following a directive from the Federal Government.
“We started earlier, but the government directed us to suspend it due to some issues in the country, but this time around, we will resume the collection,” John said during his address.
Initially introduced to address NAMA’s financial constraints, the landing fee has sparked significant debate within the aviation sector. Despite this, John emphasized its necessity, stating that the revenue is essential for the agency to tackle its financial challenges.

“In the next few weeks, we will recommence the collection of $300 landing fee from helicopter operators. The government’s earlier intervention was temporary, and now, there is no going back,” he said.
The fee was first implemented earlier this year but met with widespread opposition, leading to its suspension. However, with mounting financial pressures, NAMA has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the fee despite the initial backlash.
