Nasarawa Assembly deliberates bill to tackle youth restiveness

Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA) has moved to tackle youth restiveness in order to improve the standard of living of the youths and stimulate economic growth of the state.
To this end, the House has passed into second reading a Bill for a law which will provide for the establishment of Nasarawa State Youth Development Commission, Implementation of Sustainable Youth Policy and other matters connected therewith.
Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House announced the passage of the bill into second reading after the sponsor of the bill, Rt.Hon Nehemiah Tsentse Dandaura the Deputy Speaker gave the substance of the bill during the house proceedings today in Lafia.
The Speaker said that the bill if finally passed into law would tackle youths restiveness, unemployment and other social ills in the State.
“A Bill for a Law to Provide for the Establishment of Nasarawa State Youth Development Commission, Implementation of Sustainable Youth Policy and other matters connected therewith passed second reading.
“I therefore commits the bill to the House Committee on Youth and Sports to work on the bill and report back to the House in the next two months,” he said.
Earlier, Rt.Hon Nehemiah Tsentse Dandaura, the Deputy Speaker of the House, who is the sponsor of the bill while giving the substance of the bill said that the bill if finally passed into law will create job and empowerment opportunities for the youths.
“This bill will help in the creation of job and youth empowerment. It will also address the problem of youth unemployment in the state.
“The bill will stimulate economic growth and will attract counterpart funding. There are donor agencies that are willing to come to the state to invest and support the youths.
“As the bill will also generate revenue and will improve on the standard of living of the youths.
“The bill if finally passed into law will tackle armed robbery, prostitution, kidnapping, drug abuse and other social ills among the youths,” he said.
The Deputy Speaker said that the bill would also engaged the youths thereby reducing youths restiveness in the state.
In their various contributions, Hon Salihu Iyimoga, Hon Abdulaziz SK Danladi, Hon David Maiyaki and Hon Mohammed Omadefu appreciated the Deputy Speaker for initiating the bill. Saying the Deputy Speaker has done a great job for the youths via sponsoring the bill.
They have also explained that the youths of the state will be happy with the House if the bill sees light at the end of the day considering the benefits to be drive in the bill.
The lawmakers said that the bill would create employment opportunities and boost the socio-economic development of the state.
Hon Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the bill to pass into second reading.
Hon Abel Bala, the Minority Leader of the House second the motion.
The House unanimously passed the bill into second reading.
Similarly, the House has deliberated on the report of the House standing committee on Works and Transport on a bill for a law to establish Nasarawa State Motor Vehicle Administration and Traffic Management Agency Law and other matters connected thereto.
The Speaker slated the bill for third reading on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 after Hon Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the adoption of the report on the bill which was seconded by Hon Abel Bala, the Minority Leader of the House.
