Nasarawa police seize 1,473 illegal security items from militia group
The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has taken decisive action against illicit activities by recovering 1,473 illegally acquired security materials from banned ethnic vigilante groups and similar organisations in the region.
Among the confiscated items are 267 sets of uniforms, 102 black belts, and 189 infantry lanyards, all sourced from the Kungiyar Zaman Lafiya Nomad vigilante group.
This operation marks a significant stride in curbing illicit activities and upholding peace and security in Nasarawa State.
According to the statement released by the Commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Umar Nadada, and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Ranham Nansel, other seized items include 564 black berets, 339 pieces of black and 10 white lanyards, and 2 identification cards from the aforementioned vigilante group.

The recovery follows compliance with Executive Order No.1 of 2024, which proscribes ethnic vigilante groups and similar organisations by the Nasarawa state government.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of adhering to the directive and urged those who have not yet complied to do so before the expiration of the two-week ultimatum. The Command is committed to enforcing the ban to the fullest extent.
The decision to ban the activities and operations of ethnic vigilante groups in the state came after the controversial circumstances surrounding the establishment of a Fulani vigilante group in the state.
This proactive measure by the Nasarawa State Command demonstrates its dedication to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of all residents. Through such decisive actions, the command aims to prevent the proliferation of illegal security materials and mitigate potential threats posed by unauthorised groups.
