Ndume advocates for Ifeanyi Ubah’s widow to succeed him in Senate
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has called on the Senate to permit Uchenna Ubah, the widow of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, to succeed him as the representative of Anambra South.
Ndume made this request on Tuesday during a valedictory session held in honor of the late senator.
The lawmaker stressed the significance of preserving Ifeanyi Ubah’s legacy through his family and pointed to historical precedents to back his plea.
“I urge you, Mr. President, to help keep the spirit and aspirations of Ifeanyi alive,” he said.
He also cited the example of Chuba Okadigbo, whose wife, Margery, succeeded him in the Senate after his passing to carry on his legacy.
Ndume also referenced Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, who served in the Senate with the support of Lagosians, continuing her husband’s political vision. He similarly mentioned other figures, such as Tokunbo Abiru, Iyabo Obasanjo, Ede Dafinone, and Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, who represented their family legacies in the Senate.
He further emphasized that Uchenna Ubah, who had been a strong pillar of support for her late husband, would be an ideal candidate to ensure continuity and honor for the people of Anambra South.
Ndume called on the Senate President and his colleagues to back this initiative.
“Let us support the family by ensuring a spiritual representative of Ifeanyi in this chamber when the Anambra South senatorial election takes place,” he said. “This will guarantee continuity and honor for the people of Anambra South.”
Ifeanyi Ubah passed away in July at the age of 52.
