NEDC presents relief items to Adamawa gov’t for flood victims

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has presented food and non-food items to the Adamawa State Government for distribution to victims of flood in the state.

Presenting the items in Yola, Mohammed Goni, the managing director of NEDC said the move was in fulfillment of the promise made during the last humanitarian summit in August in Maiduguri.

“As a humanitarian gesture, we promised to assist all the states in the North-East to cushion the effects of hardship in the region.

According to him, the Minister of Humanitarian directed the commission to go round and give what they earlier promised to state governments for distribution to victims of the flood.

He applauded the actions taken by the state government to provide succor to the flood victims in the affected local government areas of the state.

According to him, the commission has also talked with the state government on ways to stop the reoccurrence of the situation.

Goni listed some of the items to include: 100,000 bags of rice 25 kg, 5,000 pieces of blankets, 5,000 pieces of mats, gallons of vegetable oil, 5,000 pieces of women’s wear, 3,000 pieces of men’s wear, and 3,000 pieces of children’s wear.

In his remarks, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri thanked and appreciated the humanitarian gesture by the NEDC in honor of displaced citizens as the result of flood and other reasons.

Fintiri who was represented by Malam Bashir Ahmad, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), promised that the items would be distributed fairly to the victims.

“We greatly appreciate your efforts, we thank you so much for standing by our affected citizens at all times. At all times you have always been with us and always acted timely”, he said.
